Travellers urged to check individual bookings before heading to airports
DUBAI – Travellers flying from the UAE on Friday face a mixed flight picture as airlines continue selected services while monitoring heightened security concerns across the region.
Emirates, Etihad Airways and flydubai are operating a number of flights, including services to Bahrain and Kuwait, while Air Arabia has cancelled several flights to the two destinations.
Flight status information from Dubai International Airport (DXB) also shows cancellations and delays affecting several international routes. The disruptions have different causes, however, and individual cancellations may be linked to operational or technical issues rather than the wider regional situation.
UAE airlines
Etihad Airways is operating selected services from Abu Dhabi. Flight EY647 to Bahrain arrived late, while EY643 and EY645 are scheduled to operate. Flight EY653 from Abu Dhabi to Kuwait has departed, while EY446 to Manila has been delayed because of an operational issue.
Etihad is advising passengers to check its official channels for the latest information before travelling to the airport.
Emirates has scheduled services between Dubai and Bahrain, with EK837 and EK839 listed for operation. Flight EK857 from Dubai to Kuwait is also scheduled to operate. The airline is advising passengers to check their individual flight status through its official channels.
flydubai flights from Dubai to Bahrain and Kuwait are operating as scheduled. The airline is asking passengers departing from Dubai to arrive at least four hours before their flight, complete online check-in where available and check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Air Arabia, meanwhile, has cancelled several services:
- G9068, Sharjah to Kuwait
- G9124, Sharjah to Kuwait
- G9107, Sharjah to Bahrain
- 3L020, Abu Dhabi to Kuwait
Passengers booked on these flights should check directly with the airline for the latest arrangements.
DXB disruptions
Dubai Airports' flight status information shows cancellations and delays across several international routes.
Among the cancelled services are Air France flight AF655 from Dubai to Paris, Kenya Airways flight KQ311 to Nairobi, Ariana Afghan Airlines flight FG402 to Kabul, Airblue flight PA811 to Multan, Airblue flight PA411 to Lahore and Emirates flight EK376A to Bangkok.
Several flights are also delayed, including Kenya Airways' KQ305 to Nairobi, Turkish Airlines' TK765 to Istanbul, SpiceJet's SG5023 to Mumbai, SG5106 to New Delhi and SG5158 to Jaipur.
The reasons for individual disruptions vary. Travellers should therefore check the status of their own booking rather than assume a cancellation is directly connected to regional security developments.
Regional picture
Airlines across the wider region are continuing to adjust operations as they monitor airspace and security conditions.
Turkish Airlines has resumed Dubai and Abu Dhabi services but continues to suspend flights to Iran. Qatar Airways is operating multiple daily flights to Dubai and has resumed services to Bahrain, Kuwait and Erbil, although delays remain possible.
Air India and Air India Express have restored their full Gulf network, while IndiGo is operating selected Middle East services. flynas is operating daily flights to Dubai, Doha and Bahrain, while Jazeera Airways is operating selected services including Dubai.
Ukraine continues to warn airlines about flying over Russian airspace, with a number of Central Asian and European carriers cancelling flights.
Travel advice
The UK's Foreign Office continues to describe the regional security situation as unpredictable, warning that attacks could resume at short notice and that renewed disruption is possible.
The US is advising Americans in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance, including over the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures and wider travel disruption.
Australia has lowered its UAE travel advice from Level 4, "do not travel", to Level 3, "reconsider your need to travel". Canada continues to advise travellers to exercise a "high degree of caution" in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar, while urging citizens to keep travel documents current and maintain sufficient supplies in case commercial flights are suspended.
For passengers departing the UAE, checking the individual booking before leaving home remains essential. Travellers should allow extra time for traffic, check-in, security and immigration, complete online check-in where available and keep their contact details updated with the airline.
Passengers flying with flydubai from Dubai are advised to allow at least four hours at the airport.
International airlines
Several major international carriers continue to suspend UAE services despite some airlines restoring operations.
Air France has suspended Dubai flights through September 4, inclusive, with departures from Dubai suspended through September 5. British Airways' Dubai and Abu Dhabi services remain suspended, with Dubai flights scheduled to resume on October 25 at a reduced frequency.
Singapore Airlines has suspended Singapore-Dubai services until October 24, while Cathay Pacific, ITA Airways, Finnair and AirBaltic have also suspended Dubai services until October 25, October 24, October 24 and October 24 respectively.
Philippine Airlines has suspended Manila-Dubai services until October 2, while Korean Air's Incheon-Dubai flights remain suspended until further notice.
Pegasus has suspended services to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Virgin Atlantic's London-Dubai flights remain suspended for the foreseeable future.
Lufthansa, Eurowings and SWISS have suspended Dubai services through October 24 for operational reasons. Eurowings plans to resume Dubai flights from November 1.
With schedules continuing to change, passengers are advised to check their airline's official website or app and confirm their flight status before travelling to the airport.
